In the first half of 2024, the Spanish government has approved the development of 7.2GW of solar projects, with 3.1GW approved in the second quarter alone.
In the second quarter of this year, 46 renewable energy projects with a total installed capacity of 35,265MW were approved in Spain.Of the approved renewable energy projects, solar systems dominated with 3,155.8MW approved, while wind power facilities accounted for only 390.7MW. Castilla y León led with 1,336.3MW of approved renewable energy projects, followed by Andalusia with 864.8MW, and Castilla-La Mancha with 391.3MW. It is worth noting that there are 9 regions in Spain that have not approved any projects.
So far this year, 9,482MW of renewable energy generation facilities have been approved, with 7,109MW of solar systems and 2,373MW of wind power facilities. In the second quarter of this year, a positive environmental impact report (EIA) was issued by Spanish authorities regarding the 19.3MW solar project in the Valencia community. Meanwhile, a total of 717MW of seven renewable energy projects received negative EIAs, with the impact on wind power projects (398.6MW) exceeding that on solar power projects (318.5MW).
In the second quarter of 2024, 42 renewable energy projects with a total installed capacity of 4,864.5MW entered the public disclosure phase. Three-quarters of the installed capacity comes from photovoltaic power plants (3,649.7 MW), 22% from wind power facilities (1,070.8 MW), and 3% from hydroelectric power facilities (144 MW).
