According to Dow Jones OPIS and CMM’s benchmark assessment of the prices of Mono PERC photovoltaic modules and TOPCon photovoltaic modules exported to China, the prices of these two photovoltaic modules fell by $0.005 /W this week, to $0.14 /W and $0.147 /W, respectively. The data indicates that due to falling prices of upstream products, coupled with weak demand in key export markets, this is the lowest price on record for PV modules.

Upstream prices in China’s PV module supply chain continue to decline, pushing down PV module prices. Polysilicon prices extended losses this week, falling 3.33 yuan (RMB)/kg to 76.17 yuan /kg, a drop of 4.19%. Prices of silicon wafers and photovoltaic cells fell for the third week in a row, with Mono G12 photovoltaic cells falling 10.45% to $0.0703 /W. In OPIS’s weekly market survey, both buyers and sellers of PV modules reported price declines. A developer said that P-type PV modules have been reduced to 1 yuan /W, while N-type PV modules are slightly higher than 0.10 yuan /W.

At present, the mood of the photovoltaic market is still pessimistic. While some demand will come from Solar Project Solutions scheduled for installation in the fourth quarter of this year, this is typically a period of low demand. PV module and solar racking  structure manufacturer explained that installation demand would not be as high as hoped due to the reduction of land available for projects. Another PV module manufacturer said that some orders signed in the last quarter have been cancelled, and some buyers want to re-sign contracts at current low prices. A seller said that the supply outlook of photovoltaic modules is not optimistic, because photovoltaic module manufacturers currently only have 1 to 2 months of inventory.

According to one source, the world’s major PV export markets(include pv mounting  system)  are still struggling, with inventories in the European distribution market so large that there is little need to replenish supplies. Even at low prices, approvals for ground-mounted PV projects are slow and there is not enough Labour to build the projects, he said. In Latin America, the Brazilian PV market is also facing weakness. One seller said Brazilian distributors were stockpiling too many PV modules.

OPIS said in its weekly market survey that it expects PV module prices to continue to fall as the end of the year approaches. Many sources pointed out that the era of 1 yuan /W has arrived, and recently in a large procurement tender in China, the bidding price of P-type PV modules was as low as 0.993 yuan /W. A senior person in the photovoltaic market said, “brutal competition is coming, and there may be momentum for consolidation in the photovoltaic industry.”
